7 Months Old!

Izzy's seventh month was very busy and this is the first weekend we've been able to relax and hang out as a little family. Izzy has been becoming more vocal about her needs and wants. Typically those involve needing food, a bottle, a new diaper or Mommy or Daddy time. She's becoming more social however has become more leery of strangers. She warms up over time though and will eventually be all smiles with a new person. She becoming interested in how people talk by intently watching their mouths move. Izzy has expanded her "vocabulary" with dadada's and bababa's and nananana's added to her mamamama's.

At her last doctor's visit, the doc gave her the go-ahead to experiment with finger foods. Izzy has loved this. Her favorites are Nilla wafers and biter biscuits. She'll take zwiebacks at daycare but not at home where she knows we must have a Nilla somewhere. She's been working hard at eating Cheerios but has been having trouble getting the little buggers in her mouth. They like to stick to the palm of her hand and she "loses" them. Today I gave her cut up banana and she did much better with that. She hasn't figured out the sippy cup but straws seem to work so that's fine by us. She's been drinking some juice from a juicebox which is oh so exciting for us because it is SO convenient if we're out somewhere. She'll usually only drink about 1-1.5 oz, so well under her 4 oz limit.

At daycare Izzy has been on the go, creeping backwards and rolling all over (and under) the place. Here she'll make her way across the living room to get a toy or to gnaw on the coffee table. Izzy finally fits a bit better in her jumpster and has been bouncy-bouncing away often with us singing the jumpy-jump tune from Yo Gabba Gabba! She has a cutest inhale laugh when she's in that thing. In general she's a very happy kid. Even when she's sick or tired, she tries to summon a smile for us. She does have a temper, especially if dinner isn't quite what she wanted or if she's over tired but so far she's distractable :)

This day was brought to you by the letter F

This past weekend we went down to Fishers Island to say good bye to Great Grandpa. Isabel and Griffin were a welcome distraction to us. They got to hang out with friends and family on the ferry ride to and from Fishers Island. And both babies got to ride up to the church in their strollers since it was a beautiful day for a walk though us Mommies and Daddies had to walk faster than we wanted to get to the service on time. I think we were still late but that would be the Horning in us.

Izzy made it through most of the service. She really enjoyed the hymns even though Mommy can't read music and was horribly out of tune. We got to find out about Great Grandpa's history and listened to a lot of people who also miss him. Including Aunt Laura who brightened the mood with talks about nature walks and what a privilege it was to be a grandchild of the great Mr. Horning. Izzy helped put flowers on the grave even though she wanted to eat them. She also got to see her Grandpa's grave. She really liked the flowers on it.

At the reception, Izzy got to see a lot of her extended family including children of Mommy's Great Aunt Isabel for whom Izzy was named. Sadly we had to leave before too long to catch the ferry back to the mainland. Aunt Laura took some really pretty pictures on the way. Then we had a good dinner with the Worcester gang and Debbie before we all had to drive to our respective homes.

Attack of the babies!

Daddy and Izzy take in the scenery.

Hey Daddy, what's down there?

Hey! This light is NOT flattering!

Griffin teaches Izzy her animals before dinner:
"Izzy, This is a turtle."

"And see? This is a duck."

Where'd Griffin go?

"Hey! I'm conducting an important lesson here."

6 Months Old!

Izzy Lou is an entire half year old now ( and a little bit more). Last week, Izzy had her 6 month check up and weighed in at 12 lb 5 oz and is now a whole 2 feet tall! And just like the doctor promised, she has become a lot more fun. She laughs and smiles more and is starting to appreciate games like peek-a-boo and zerberting parts of her body. She's still not mobile though she has on occasion managed to roll across the room or off our outdoor blanket or under the table. She just hasn't quite figured out how to do it on purpose with a destination in mind. Though I'm sure that's not far off and then we're in trouble!

The big thing this month has been starting daycare for Izzy and starting work full-time again for me. Daddy has taken over dressing her and dropping her off and I get to pick her up after school. Sadly, I'll be unable to pump this time around at school so she's going to be a formula baby at least during the day. Fortunately our sitter Ziggy (love the name) supplies food and formula so that's one less thing we need to worry about.Izzy loves day care and Dad has reported that she starts giggling when he takes her out of the car for drop-off. We sure do miss the Peanut but we also know that she's probably having more fun there than home with Daddy trying to work. Izzy has been under the weather since she started since now she's exposed to more people but she's still smiling even through a couple fevers and now a stuffy nose.

Milestones:
Makes repetitive noises including popping her lips and "mommommomm" :)
Babbles
Holds a bottle
Sits up using her arms as props
Grabs and holds things (usually to chew on it)
Sucks on her toes (even during dinner!)

Likes:
Sucking her thumbs
Food! Especially pureed fruits
Ziggy and the kids at daycare
Watching the dogs play and run
Riding in her carrier on Mommy's tummy
Her Giraffe chew toy
Escaping her play gym
Sitting up with support

Dislikes:
Being sick
Cereal with water instead of milk
Missing her naps

Here's Izzy in her bouncer at 1 week

And here she is at 6 months!

And she still loves it :)
