Mae's 2 Month Check-up
At her 2 month check-up today, Mae weighed in at 10 lb 2 oz and is 23" long. So she is as heavy as and an inch longer than Izzy at 4 months. She got 3 shots and one oral vaccination but recovered fairly quickly since the border on the wall was just soooo interesting. Mae definitely knows how to kiss up to the doctor already. She was all mellow with her and let her check her chest and ears with no fuss and she lifted her head up way higher than ever with me for tummy time. Show off!

A Saturday Out
Saturday, we wanted to flee the city and headed west on Rte 9. We had a nice picnic at the Quabbin Reservoir in Hank's Meadow and got to hike down to the water's edge. Then we continued on to Northampton where Izzy got to test out beds and eat very chocolate ice cream. and Mommy got a little Christmas shopping done. It is only 4 months away ;)

The Ecotarium with the Lipchaks
Friday, we met up with Jessica, Felicity and Harry at the Ecotarium. They had also brought along their friends Sarah and Anna. We spent most of the time outside since the weather was so nice. We got to have a picnic in the playground and see a bunch of animals. Sadly, Izzy had a doctor appointment so we had to leave early but we had a great time while it lasted.

Blueberry Picking
Yesterday, we went blueberry picking with Aunty Kate. It was a beautiful slightly overcast day with a nice breeze. Perfect picking weather. Izzy was better than Sal since she managed to get some berries in her box before eating them. I was impressed that she was so good at finding the ripe ones. She'll be a good picking partner in years to come :) Mae had a good time just hanging out in the stroller. She got to have a bottle al fresco listening to the crickets.

Berries taste best right off the bush

Berries go in the box as well as the mouth

Aunty Kate knows the best berries are in the middle

Dreaming of a time when she can eat blueberries, too

Mae is 2 Months Old!
I can't believe two whole months have already gone by. Mae has been a great baby. And boy is she a happy camper, most of the time. She's been smiling up a storm. It helps that she's able to entertain herself fairly well. Her favorite past time is just chilling in her changer watching the mobile and talking to herself. Mae enjoys being held by just about anybody which gives Mommy a nice break. She loves watching people, especially Izzy.
Mae's learning some basic skills like holding onto things and grabbing. She loves to kick a lot, especially in the tub. She actually enjoys tummy time and so she really doesn't want to push herself over. She's rolled over a couple times but it's been kind of fluky so I wouldn't say she's rolling over yet for real.
We've been getting out a lot more lately since she will take a bottle and really enjoys just being out and about. Today we went to the Ecotarium with some friends and I had forgotten her pacifier. Didn't matter. Mae just slept most of the time in the red stroller and would suck her fingers instead. Phew! She also loves her baby swing. We go out nearly every evening to play with Izzy on the swingset.
Mae can:
Coo and Ahh
Hold onto objects put in her hand
Grab things like clothes and hair
Hold her head up (though a bit wobbly)
Suck her hand (typically the left)
Mae likes:
Her name
The red stroller
Napping in her changer
Mobiles
Tinny baby toy music
Being held closely
Airing her bottom
Swinging outside
Sucking her fingers
Baths
Mae dislikes:
Izzy getting TOO close
A motionless mobile
Cold feet

Mommy's Birthday
Sunday the 8th, the extended family and Aunty Kate came over to celebrate my birthday with corn and lobster and two types of cake. Izzy and Griffin did a bang up job decorating the baked cake with green sprinkles and star nonpareils and candles. Izzy made sure to get the candles in good. Maybe so that she could get more frosting when we lick them after they've been blown out. The kids had fun outside playing with the bubble machine. Aunty Amy got the cousins Webkinz dragons. Well, Izzy really got a pink leopard print dinosaur but it looks kinda like a dragon. She's named it "Crystal" and she was very excited to see her on the computer. She's already bought it a hat and some new clothes.
I got a lot of nice presents. Izzy went shopping with Daddy and picked out her own gifts for me: a green Tinker Bell sweatshirt, orange scented lotion (really for herself), and a big bath brush. Supposedly she already had them in mind since she bee-lined for those items before looking around for herself.

Making Paper Turtles
This week Izzy and I came up with a new craft recycling cardboard drink trays: Paper Turtles!
Step 1: Get a drink Tray

Step 2: Turn it over to yield 4 potential turtles

Step 3: Cut it in 4 pieces.

Step 4: Trim each quarter to shape legs, head, and tail.

Step 4: Paint and decorate.
Izzy unintentionally decorated one with dirt making a lovely likeness of Morla from "The Neverending Story"

And of course decorated herself in the process :)
