Noisy Animals

Izzy and Griffin had fun making a lot of noise at the Roger Williams Park Zoo. They totally drowned out a guy's lecture on the moon bear's eating habits. That Felix growling after everyone else quiets down.

Goin' to the Zoo Zoo Zoo

Aunt Laura treated us to a visit to Roger Williams Park Zoo with her membership. Aunt Gigi and Sarah came down from Connecticutt to join in the fun. Izzy was most excited to see the giraffes and camels. There was a baby giraffe that was only about Mae's age and yet was way WAY bigger :) We also saw a pair of snow leopards "playing" and a moon bear bathing in his pool.

Mae's First Meal

Mae has been cranky about feeding this week and then she lunged after Izzy's apple. So even though it's early we figured we might try to give the girl some rice cereal. She loved it and had no problems getting it down. She ate the WHOLE bowl (2 oz) and then still nursed for a full sitting. I hope she'll sleep well tonight.

Mae is 3 Months Old!

Mae is now a quarter year old! She's an absolute sweetheart and is very cuddly. She loves cuddling with blankets and often pulls them up to her face while she sucks her thumb. She has decided that the right thumb is best just like her sister. Overall, Mae continues to be very easy going. She really only cries when she's hungry or tired. And if we can't figure it out, typically the swing will calm her down fairly quickly. She loves that tinny electronic music.

Mae is starting to meet some more physical milestones with the increased floor time. Izzy loves playing with Mae on the floor and is being fairly good with the no-feet-on-the-blanket rule. Izzy is the best baby toy consultant since the toys Mae loves best are ones Izzy picked out. Her grip has improved immensely. When going outside to visit neighbors, she grabbed her Cookie rattle and held it for nearly 10 minutes while we were talking before she finally let go.

Mae can lift her head completely off the floor while on her tummy which has enables her to roll over onto her back. She also likes to roll over onto her side while on her back. All the better to get that thumb in her mouth ;) We've pulled out the Bumbo so she can sit up and use her hands more. Fortunately, she's bigger than Izzy and is able to use it. She's already moving into her 3-6 months clothing.

Mae is talking more and is making those cute high pitched squeals when she has a happy burst. Surely, there is an inside joke she's sharing with the mobile animals that we're not getting.

Mae can:
Laugh
Grab and hold objects
Put objects in her mouth
Rotate on her back and tummy
Roll over from lying on her tummy to her back
Roll onto side from lying on her back
Raise her head off the floor while on her tummy
Sit up with support

Mae likes:
Sucking her right thumb (just like her big sis!)
Floor time
Her Piggy and Cookie Monster toys
Her taggie blanket
Being upright
Baths
Chilling in her swings (inside and outside)
Joining us for dinner time at the table
Naps in her crib
Watching Izzy

Mae dislikes:
Being misunderstood
Too short pajamas
Too long sleeves (can't get the thumb!)
Gas!

Mae's a Happy Camper

Mae will be creeping before long.

The Organ in Niantic

Children's Museum in Niantic

Thursday we went down to Aunt Gigi's but it was too hot for the beach. If you can even imagine such a thing! So we went over to the Children's Museum in Niantic. There were a bunch of little rooms with various themes like a fast food taco restaurant and an Egyptian pyramid. There was a main room with a coastal theme complete with a boat and a "beach." And there was a science room which is where I finally pulled out the camera since the other areas were crowded with kids. I do know that Santa will need to bring Izzy a play ice cream cone set since she tried to give everyone ice cream cones all through the visit. So afterwards we got some real ice cream and took a quick walk along the Niantic boardwalk.

The organ was the biggest hit. And it was LOUD!

The Spencer Fair

Saturday evening, we went to the Spencer Fair with Aunty Kake. Man was it crowded but we had a lot of fun. We pretty much skipped around to the parts we liked since we go every year and the double stroller doesn't easily fit everywhere. Though I hear there was a fabulous quilt upstairs in the 4-H barn that we missed.

Izzy had fun seeing the animals. As long as they were smaller than her: ducks, rabbits, and chickens. She looked at the alpacas from a safe distance and there was no way she was going into the cow barn. We got to see the final piggy races of the day. The owners definitely had fun naming their racers. There was an Arnold Swartzen-hogger and Bacon Bits and Lindsay Lo-ham. The funniest group were the Paddling Porkers at the end. I had commented that Izzy's totem animals seemed to be owls and elephants because she was surrounded by them as a baby. So it would follow that Mae's must be pigs and fishes. And here we had mer-pigs :)

We had a lot of fun eating the fair food. Kris, Kate and I had pork-chop sandwiches and a gobbler. Izzy got a corn dog and ate more than her share of fries and lemonade. The best was when Izzy finally got her cotton candy. It was the one thing she asked for and we found a stand that actually made it fresh in that huge steel tub.

Finally we hit the midway on the way out. Izzy and I got to ride on the carousel and drive a red big rig on Convoy! Then Izzy got to do a solo run in a red roadster. She had a absolute blast! Izzy was so good when it all had to come to an end. We had been there for nearly 4 hours and it was well past the girls' bedtime. Maybe next year we'll get to see the cows :)
