A Couple of Goofballs

Aunt Laura had a party to attend so Grandma Patty Lou, Uncle Ben and Cousin Griffin came over to visit. Griffin had a grand time running around in the yard and playing with Izzy's toys. Other people's toys are always more fun than your own, dontcha know. And at times, they actually played together. Though Izzy can't walk more than a few wobbly steps, Griffin was patient to play on her level and even discovered that she's quite rough and tumble.

Enough talk. Here's a whole bunch of pictures and some video of the two cuties.

Izzy and Griffin play with the tunnel outside.

Griffin rids the yard of bugs

Hey, what are you doing in here?!

Whatever, lady. I'm outta here.

That's right. This is MY house.

Check out my belly!

Izzy shows a touch of Florence in her.

Izzy and Griffin are "totally cool"

What do you mean, I don't look "cool"?

Maybe Izzy's shades will help.

Is the hat a bit much?

When the adults are away the kids will play.
And then they came back...

Mother's Day 2009

Daddy and Izzy surprised me with a pancake breakfast and a cute card with puppies that of course Izzy picked out. Anything with dogs is the bees knees :) She signed it herself with a variety of markers (mostly purple). Crayons are too tasty for drawing. After breakfast, Izzy got dressed up in a blue bird dress that I sewed the night before. Fortunately, it fit pretty well with some growing room, of course.

Then, we celebrated Mother's Day with Grandma Patty Lou at John Harvard's which is kind of a half-way point between Worcester and Randolph. We were quite a large group. Laura, Fred and Griffin were there as well as Aunt Amy and her beau Ely. Uncle Ben enjoyed showing off his babies to any wait staff who came by. Lunch was very yummy. Izzy and Cousin Griffin shared a big plate of pasta though Izzy started to yell for a neighboring kid's hot dog. So next time, maybe a hot dog. Then we all got the peach cobbler. Izzy definitely got her fair share of our dish.

Afterwards, we went over to Natick to play patriotic mini-golf. It had been windy but it cleared up enough for a fun game. All Mommys were admitted free :) Griffin was good at "helping" everyone get their balls in the hole. Izzy on the other hand, was more interested in climbing around the props on the greens. Uncle Fred was the big winner with an unbelievably low score.

Finally we took a detour to the LL Bean store down in Mansfield. Daddy got some shorts and Izzy got a pretty blue hat which she actually manages to keep on :) It was a long but happy day.

Happy Mother's Day, Mommy!

See, Mom, it has dogs on it!

Oh-so-pretty Izzy poses in her chair for Mother's Day

Hey Izzy, can I have my ball back?

No, it's too yummy!

You can have my club, though, Griffin.

Monster Izzy!

Griffin makes sure the balls are in their place

Mom, forget the camera. Check out this awesome ball!

"See, Izzy, that's a horse!"

Mini-golf is great!

Lots of Action

But no pictures for now. Izzy has been very busy this past weekend and that makes it a bit difficult to whip out that camera.

First, Izzy has now taken 3 full steps without holding on before falling or grabbing onto something or someone. And when she does hold onto us to walk, it may be just a sleeve or a finger. So she's getting more confident. Now to just let go entirely. She can stand up on her own a bit better. Before we'd either we need to set her up and then pull away or she'll forget to hold onto something. Now she's practicing more on her own. So not too much longer.

Also, Izzy made it up ALL of the stairs to the second floor in our house. Supervised, of course. She tried to bail only 3 steps from the top but I told her I wasn't going to pick her up this close to the top, so get going! Well, now that gate is up but we'll still practice when we can. She doesn't quite understand having to go back down feet first so no solo runs for a long while.

Hopefully this coming weekend we can get some photos or even some video :)

First Ambulance Ride

Last Tuesday, Izzy had her first, and hopefully last, ride in an ambulance. She's fine. Just living up to the doc's warning that this is the most dangerous year excepting when she turns 17. She had choked on some apples at day care and Heimlich hadn't gotten them all out. Ziggy called us both and the paramedics. I could hear her screaming bloody murder over the phone and the EMT's suggested she go in for a chest X-ray to make sure nothing was sucked into her lungs. Izzy was asleep on Daddy's chest by the time I got to the hospital and she still sounded a bit phlegmy though she had gotten rid of a lot of stuff on the ride over.

The doctors and the nurse at UMass were very nice. The X-ray was interesting though terrifying for Izzy. They drop her onto a saddle and close two clear clamps around her so she's in like a test tube. She almost got her arm stuck since she wanted to suck her thumb. She was interested in the equipment after it was all over. That extra screaming also seemed to clear her out finally and she really perked up after that. Enough to flirt with the doctor she had previously hated. Ziggy helped a lot with entertaining Izzy since we were stuck there for observation. Though mainly it seemed that she didn't want to let go of the pumpkin since she had given her such a scare. We got to finally go home at 5:30pm. It was loooong day for all of us.
