Last Tuesday, Izzy had her first, and hopefully last, ride in an ambulance. She's fine. Just living up to the doc's warning that this is the most dangerous year excepting when she turns 17. She had choked on some apples at day care and Heimlich hadn't gotten them all out. Ziggy called us both and the paramedics. I could hear her screaming bloody murder over the phone and the EMT's suggested she go in for a chest X-ray to make sure nothing was sucked into her lungs. Izzy was asleep on Daddy's chest by the time I got to the hospital and she still sounded a bit phlegmy though she had gotten rid of a lot of stuff on the ride over.
The doctors and the nurse at UMass were very nice. The X-ray was interesting though terrifying for Izzy. They drop her onto a saddle and close two clear clamps around her so she's in like a test tube. She almost got her arm stuck since she wanted to suck her thumb. She was interested in the equipment after it was all over. That extra screaming also seemed to clear her out finally and she really perked up after that. Enough to flirt with the doctor she had previously hated. Ziggy helped a lot with entertaining Izzy since we were stuck there for observation. Though mainly it seemed that she didn't want to let go of the pumpkin since she had given her such a scare. We got to finally go home at 5:30pm. It was loooong day for all of us.
